According to HuffPost Medical Editor Dr. Dean Ornish, the most important thing we can do to boost our health today is something we’re genetically wired to do already: love more.

Ornish told HuffPost Live host Caroline Modarressy-Tehrani that by opening ourselves up to affectionate and loving emotions, we’re actually more likely to prolong our lives.

“You know, it’s so easy to make fun of these things as so touchy-feely,” he explained. “There’s nothing more powerful that determines our health. Loving yourself, loving other people — as insipid as that may sound, that’s really the most important factor in our health and our well-being.”
